The humanity standards are getting lowered day by day the way women safety is degrading in the country. A 21-year old Tuberculosis patient who was admitted to Fortis Hospital in Gurugram and was on a ventilator in an Intensive Care Unit, was allegedly raped by an outsourced staffer.
After gaining consciousness on Tuesday, the survivor told her father about the incident in a handwritten note. Following the complaint, police has registered a case. The incident is suspected to be occurred between October 21 and October 27. She was admitted to the Sector 44 Fortis Hospital of Gurugram in a semi-conscious condition.
Inspector Bijender Singh, Station House Officer (SHO) of the Sushant Lok police station, said, “An FIR has been registered regarding the matter under section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). She has named the accused, and we are questioning all those employed at the hospital with that name.”
“We are also scanning the CCTV footage from the cameras installed at the hospital but are yet to find anything suspicious. The accused has not been identified, and we have not been able to take the statement of the victim since she is not fit at the moment. She had alerted her father about the incident through signs and by writing the name of the accused. We are investigating the matter,” Singh said.
As per the sources, the survivor was a resident of Mahendragarh and was suffering from Tuberculosis. Her family took her to the hospital after she reported breathing issues where she was kept in isolation in a ventilator in an Intensive Care Unit.
“The hospital conducted an investigation internally and we were informed by the family members (about the alleged crime), following which we have registered a case under section 376 (2) (E) of Indian Penal Code at Sushant Lok police station. We have identified the suspect but are yet to arrest him,” said Usha Kundu, assistant commissioner of police (HQ).
After the investigation, the police discovered that suspect is outsourced and is the non-medical staff.
“The patient was admitted to the ICU and from the second day of her admission, she has been on ventilator support. Six days after admission, the patient alleged that she had been violated on the day of admission. Post her complaint, we immediately informed the police. We have a zero-tolerance policy in such situations and are extending full cooperation and support including entire CCTV footage to the police,” said a statement released by the hospital.
