NCW Took Suo Moto Cognizance
The National Commission for Women on Thursday took suo moto cognizance of the matter. The commission’s chief Rekha Sharma wrote to Karnataka Director General of Police Praveen Sood asking to identify and arrest the accused immediately.
“NCW has also asked for providing medical & counseling support to the survivor,” NCW wrote on Twitter.
The duo was coming back from Chamundi Hills, a popular tourist spot. At around 7.30 pm, they were accosted by over 5-6 drunk men near the Lalithadripura area of Mysuru. “These kind of incidents are very sensitive… Only after we record the statement of the victim will get to know what exactly has happened. Meanwhile, whoever was with her had given information and subsequently we filed an FIR based on the information,” said Mysuru Police Commissioner Chandragupta. The victim’s statement has not been recorded yet.
