On February 11, a 25-year old man, Rinku Sharma was stabbed to death by a mob from his own locality. The police arrested four accused on Thursday and the fifth accused has been arrested today. The police have refuted the claims made by the deceased’s family that they killed him because he was collecting donations for the construction of Ram temple and was chanting slogans “Jai Shree Ram”.
A video of the brutal assault went viral on Thursday leading to the huge outrage in the country seeking justice for Rinku Sharma.
Rinku Sharma was a BJP’s Yuva Morcha and Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) activist. He was a lab technician in a hospital and it was also revealed that he had helped one of the accused’s brothers to get admitted in the hospital when he was infected with coronavirus.
The family of the deceased claimed that various members of Bajarang Dal had organized a donation drive for the construction of Ram Temple and Rinku Sharma was chanting the slogans “Jai Shree Ram”.
“We have been having issues with the accused since the last year. In August, we had organised a small event for Ram Mandir. They were angered by this but we ignored them. We have always been good neighbours; Rinku even donated blood to one of their family members when she was pregnant,” told one of Rinku’s brothers.
While police has denied all the claims and tweeted, “On 10.2.21 eve,a scuffle ensued during a birthday party in the area of Mangolpuri,following which Victim Rinku Sharma got injured in stabbing, who later succumbed to injury during treatment.A case under relevant sections was registered & all 04 accused were arrested. @DelhiPolice”
Delhi police further added, “So far, during investigation it has surfaced that quarrel started during a birthday party over shutting down of a restaurant. ”
The police refuted all the claims about communal angle in the death of Rinku Sharma as all the accused belong to the Muslim community. It was revealed that they were already in dispute because of their eateries in Rohini, Delhi.
The case has been registered against the accused — Zahid, Mehtab, Tasuddin, Danish and Islam.
