Central Bureau of Investigation has got the sanction to prosecute the retired Allahabad High Court Shri Narayan Shukla who is accused of taking bribes for giving a favourable order. The order was in favour of a private medical college which was barred by the government from accepting any admissions.
“The sanction to prosecute Shukla arrived Thursday evening. Investigations against him are complete and the process of charge sheeting him will begin now. The charge sheet will be filed soon,” said a CBI official.
CBI has applied for a go-ahead on April 16 this year. The agency has applied for these sanction orders under the Prevention of Corruption Act. CBI doesn’t need sanction for the prosecution of Quddusi as he had retired at the time the alleged offence took place.
The FIR was registered on December 4, 2019, in connection to a 2017 matter. Former Chhattisgarh High Court chief justice I M Quddusi was arrested by the agency.
Along with Shukla, six other persons were named in the FIR. The six accused included I M Quddusi, Quddusi’s associate Bhawana Pandey, Lucknow-based medical college Prasad Education Trust (PET), its owners B P Yadav and Prasad Yadav and Sudhir Giri. They were booked under Section 120B of the IPC (criminal conspiracy) and provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
As per the FIR, PET-run Prasad Institute of Medical Sciences was among 46 colleges barred by the government from admitting students for two years due to lack of facilities in 2017.
As per the FIR, the petition by Trust was heard by a division bench of court comprising Shukla on August 25, 2017 and gave a favourable decision.
