Amid the ongoing COVID 19 crisis, certain modifications were made to rationalise the CBSE Syllabus and to make up for the academic loss faced by the students. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has “completely scrapped” the chapters of federalism, citizenship, secularism and nationalism from the curriculum decided for class XI for the academic year 2020-2021.

The decision of scrapping was directed by the HRD Ministry to the CBSE. Moreover, topics such as the system of ‘Growth of Local Government in India’ and ‘Why do we need Local Government?’ is also scrapped along with the ‘Social Movements and Social Movements in India.’

“Considering the importance of learning achievement, it has been decided to rationalize syllabus up to 30 percent by retaining the core concepts,” tweeted HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank. “To aid the decision, a few weeks back I also invited suggestions from all educationists on the reduction of syllabus for students and I am glad to share that we received more than 1.5K suggestions. Thank you, everyone, for the overwhelming response,” he added.

In a statement, CBSE said the deleted chapters are not accessed in themselves, but are to be explained their relevance to the students by the teachers. The deleted chapters would not be included in the Internal Assessment or the year end board examination.
