Counting the second arrest after the Uttar Pradesh government introduced the Anti-Love Jihad Law, a 21-year old man, identified as Sonu Malik, has been arrested outside the court premises of Aligarh. The man is booked for trying to perform an interfaith marriage and on a charge of detaining the girl forcefully.
Aligarh’s Civil Line police arrested the man from district court premises. A video went viral on social media in which the police can be seen dragging the man from the district court premises in front of dozens of bystanders.
The woman was also taken away by the police and both of them were taken to Civil Line police station Aligarh.
Civil Lines Circle Officer Anil Samania told the sources that a complaint has been registered against the man for keeping the woman under detention forcibly.
While in another video, the woman can be seen shouting that she loves the man and want to marry him. She can be heard saying that she is an adult and wants to live with the youth.
21-year old, Sonu Malik used to work as a tailor in Chandigarh and went from Chandigarh to Aligarh to tie the marital nuptial knot with a woman of another community.
Recently, the Uttar Pradesh government introduced a law against the forceful conversion named UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance, 2020 also termed as anti love-jihad law.
