Thousands of doctors are on the streets protesting against the delay in NEET-PG counselling. But it took a dramatic turn after doctors and the police personnel faced off on Monday. Both sides claimed injuries to their companions.
The protest is led by the Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association who has complained that several members of the Association were detained during their protest march from Maulana Azad Medical College to the Supreme Court.

They also alleged that they were brutally thrashed, dragged, and detained by the police near ITO. As per police, 7 personnel were injured during the face-off near ITO. Following the incident, the police have registered an FIR under Section 188 and other relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code for causing obstruction in the duty of police personnel, and damaging public property.
“There will be a complete shutdown of all healthcare institutions today onwards. We strongly condemn this brutality and demand the immediate release of our FORDA representatives and resident doctors,” said the statement issued by FORDA.
The statement further added, “A Black Day in the history of the Medical fraternity of the nation. Resident Doctors, the so called ‘Corona Warriors’, protesting peacefully to Expedite NEET PG Counselling 2021 in Delhi were brutally thrashed, dragged & detained by the cops. The medical fraternity of the nation must condemn this act in strongest words & come forward in support. We urge all State RDAs of the nation to join the agitation! We all stand united in this fight against injustice.”
Talking to a media outlet, RML Hospital RDA Vice President, Dr. Ajay Kumar said that thousands of doctors have been detained by the police and they want an apology for this barbaric action.
“They came to protest and tried to stop the traffic movement. We tried to stop them and they then started marching towards the Supreme Court. We again stopped them after discussing with them,” said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central district) Rohit Meena.
Absolutely shocked at the unprovoked brutality of Delhi Police on our Doctor colleagues who were protesting peacefully requesting for NEET PG 2021 counselling schedule. Women Doctors were man-handled to the level that can be presumed as abuse! Shameful!#Doctorsstrike#NEETPG pic.twitter.com/66ZObqZtZ6

Doctors Allegedly Returned Apron As A Gesture Of Rejection of Service
On Monday, over 50 doctors were claimed to be detained by the Delhi police. The detainees also include the FORDA chief.
“There is no respect left for Covid warriors. We are shocked and in disbelief at what happened today. Both male and female doctors were dragged on the road. Several people were injured, some had lacerations from being dragged, others got hit against the barricades, and still other received injuries to their hand when the bus door was closed on it,” said Anuj Aggarwal, general secretary of the resident doctors’ association of Safdarjung Hospital.
FORDA president Manish told that resident doctors of a large number of major hospitals on Monday returned their apron (lab coat) in a symbolic gesture of rejection of service.
“We also tried to march from the campus of the Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) to Supreme Court, but soon after we had started it, security personnel did not allow us to proceed.” he added.
