Delhi High Court on Friday, has granted the anticipatory bail to the chairman of Delhi Minority Commission, Zafarul Islam Khan who was booked in May over the sedition charges.

Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri conducted the hearing through video conferencing. The High Court granted anticipatory bail to the DMC chairman Zafarul Islam Khan after police communicated that he is no longer needed for further investigation.

Zafarul Islam Khan through advocate Vrinda Grover had filed a plea seeking anticipatory bail on the grounds of his age, health issues, and risk of contracting COVID-19.

On April 28, 72-year-old, Zafarul Islam Khan published some posts through his social media account which was alleged to be seditious and hateful in nature.

Following a complaint, the Delhi police had registered an FIR against the DMC chief under sections 124A and 153A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He was booked under the alleged offences of sedition and promoting hatred among different groups on the grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, and language.
