Delhi High Court has granted bail to the Punjabi actor and singer Deep Sidhu who was accused in the Red Fort violence case. The court had reserved its order on Monday over his bail application.
The counsel appearing for Deep Sidhu submitted that mere his presence did not make him part of the unlawful assembly and that he was an honest citizen who was just a part of the protest.
Opposing the bail plea, the public prosecutor appearing for Delhi police stated that Sidhu participated in the protest with the only intention to incite violence and disregard the national flag. He further added that Sidhu is the main instigator in the unlawful assembly.
In the earlier hearing, Deep Sidhu submitted before the court that he didn’t give any call to the protestors to conduct Tractor Rally on Republic Day and it was the farmer leaders who gave a call for the protests.
“Right to protest is a fundamental right, that’s why I was there. Neither I indulged in violence, nor did I urge anyone to indulge in the violence,” Sidhu said.
While arguing for his bail plea on April 8, Sidhu submitted through his counsel, “I just posted a video, that was my mistake. Every mistake is not a crime. The media named me as the main accused just because I posted a video. I was levelled by the media as the chief conspirator, I don’t know why?”
Special Cell of Delhi Police had arrested Sidhu in February in connection to the violence that took place on January 26 during the Tractor Parade organized by agitating farmers.
