Counting one another bizarre incident amid this pandemic, an FIR has been registered against two people belonging to the Pardhi community for offering a sacrifice of a hen and a goat in the superstitious belief that it will ward off this pandemic COVID-19.
The incident took place in Barshi taluka of Solapur district. It was learnt from the local community members of the Pardhi community (a hunter community listed as a Scheduled Tribe) had constructed a temple and named it Corona Devi or Corona Mata (Goddess Corona).
It was also said that they sacrificed two animal lives including one of hen and another one of a goat to appease the ‘angry Corona goddess’ whose wrath they fear. The sacrifice of the animals was confirmed by SD Girigosavi, an SI at the Barshi Police Station.
Andha Shraddha Nirmulan Samiti, an organization that works in the field of uprooting superstitions and blind faith has reached out to the community members and probing the matter. FIR has been registered against the two members of the tribal community.
