On 18 December, a Jaipur’s Special Court convicted four terrorists accused in a serial blast case that jolted Jaipur, killing 71 and injuring 185 people in 2008. However, the fifth accused, Shahbaaz Hussain was acquitted due to lack of evidence.
The four convicts identified as Mohammad Saif, Salman, Mohammad Sarwar Azmi, and Saiffurehman were involved in the serial blast on 13 May 2008 which started at Manak Chowk and followed by Hanuman temple in Chandpole, Hanuman temple in Sanganeri gate, Johri Bazar, Badi Chaupar, Choti Chaupar, Tripolia bazar, and Sargasuli in Jaipur. The fourth person, Hussain was accused of sending an email and taking responsibility of the blasts, however, the prosecution failed to prove these allegations. Thus, the court acquitted him in all the cases.
According to the police, the co-founder of the Indian Mujahideen terror group, Yasin Bhatkal is suspected to be the mastermind behind these attacks. They further believe that 11 members of the Indian Mujahideen were involved in the Jaipur serial blast.
The quantum of punishment is expected to be pronounced in the following two days.
