Delhi Police has issued a non-bailable warrant against the two other accused, Nikita Jacob and Shantanu, in connection to the Greta Thunberg toolkit case. The first arrest was of activist Disha Ravi who has been remanded to police custody for five days on Sunday.
The formal arrest was made on Sunday and Ms Ravi was produced before a magistrate in Patiala House court who sent her to five days of judicial custody.
As per the police, Jacob has been absconding since she was named in the toolkit case. Taking note of the warrant issued against her, Jacob has moved Bombay High Court seeking interim protection.
Almost ten days after the FIR filed in connection to the Greta Thunberg toolkit case, the Delhi police arrested 22-year old activist Disha Ravi for her alleged role in sharing the toolkit related to farmers’ protest with 18-year old Sweden environmentalist Greta Thunberg.
Her arrest has been drawing a lot of criticism. Ms. Ravi has been booked under Section 124A (sedition), Section 153 (intent to provoke rioting), Section 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, place of birth, race, and language, and Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of Indian Penal Code. Though Ravi has admitted that she had edited only two lines of the document, Delhi police have accused her as the main conspirator and claimed that her role is many times more than the two lines editing that she claims.
“Disha Ravi, arrested by CyPAD unit of Delhi Police, is an Editor of the Toolkit Google Doc & key conspirator in document’s formulation and dissemination. She started WhatsApp Group & collaborated to make the Toolkit doc. She worked closely with them to draft the doc,” tweeted Delhi police on Sunday.
The statement further added, “In this process, they all collaborated with the pro-Khalistani Poetic Justice Foundation to spread disaffection against the Indian state. She was the one who shared the Toolkit Doc with Greta Thunberg.”
Bengaluru police sources submitted that there was no prior information provided to them about the five-member team coming to arrest Disha Ravi. Delhi police team informed their Bengaluru counterparts after they escorted the activist to the airport around 5 pm on Saturday.
Amid farmers’ protests getting global attention, many international influencers including Rihanna, Greta Thunberg, and others came in support of the farmers. Greta Thunberg shared a Google doc on Twitter which she later deleted.
The police had asked the search engine giant, Google to help in providing the IP addresses and accounts in connection to the toolkit case.
