A 23-year-old truck driver was thrashed with hammers and rods by a group of cow vigilantes in Badshahpur on Friday morning while he was on his way to deliver buffalo meat in Gurugram. One person has been arrested and an FIR has been registered in Badshapur police station.
Police stated that a police team rescued the victim and took him to the Civil Hospital. Taking note of the condition, he was later transferred to a private hospital in Sector 38 and hospital authorities said that the victim has suffered several serious injuries but his condition is stable now.
On Friday, two videos were surfaced all over the internet in which a mob can be seen beating a person with hammers and rods and also damaged the police vehicle.
In the first video, a man was arguing with the police and then breaking the windshield of the police vehicle. The mob can also be seen trying to pull the victim from the police vehicle. While in the second video man is sitting on the ground and one among the mob kicked him in the face.
As per police, at around 9.30 am on Friday, 23-year-old Lukman was on his way to deliver buffaloes meat from Ghasera in Nuh to a meat shop owner, Tahir, near Jama Masjid in Gurugram. Then on Badshahpur traffic signal, 8-10 men start chasing him on five motorcycle.
“There were around eight to 10 men. They shouted at me to stop my vehicle. Fearing for my safety, I sped up. I had just stopped my vehicle in Sadar Bazar when the men reached me and pulled me out of the truck. They thrashed me with iron rods saying that I was transporting cow meat,” stated Lukman in the FIR.
The FIR has been registered against unidentified suspects under Section 147 (rioting), Section 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), Section 149 (unlawful assembly), Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), Section 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), Section 341 (wrongful restraint), Section 342 (wrongful confinement) and Section 427 (mischief causing damage) of Indian Penal Code.
“Lukman has been supplying meat in the market for a few years. I received a call from him around 9.30 am when he informed me that he was being chased. I immediately made several calls to the police but the team arrived an hour late. Lukman was beaten up in the Trunk Market and then he was bundled in his pick-up truck and taken to Badshahpur, where he was again beaten up. This attack has happened a day before Eid and it is an attempt to disturb communal harmony,” said the meat shop owner, Tahir.
However, ACP Sandeep Malik denied the allegations and stated that the deputed team has reached on time. The meat has been sent for testing.
