Madras High Court on Thursday granted bail to Tamil actor Mansoor Ali Khan and directed him to pay Rs 2 lakh to the state government for spreading lies about the COVID-19 vaccine.
Justice M Dhandapani has asked the actor to pay the amount to the State Health Secretary to purchase the Covishield vaccine as a condition for bail.
Chennai police have booked him following his statement in front of a private hospital where actor Vivek was admitted on April 16. Vivek was admitted to the hospital after he suffered a heart attack, a day after taking the Covid vaccine.
Mansoor Ali Khan was criticized for his statement where he held vaccination responsible for the heart attack.
Vadapalani police had booked Mansoor Ali Khan under Section 153 (wantonly giving provocation), Section 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) and Section 505(1)(b) (intent to cause fear to the public) of the Indian Penal Code. The police has also invoked the Epidemic Diseases Act and the Disaster Management Act.
Later, Khan clarified that his speech was an emotional outburst.
