A woman has filed a complaint against her 32-year old husband in Maharashtra for allegedly giving her triple talaq over a phone call.

Her husband called her on November 20 and said that he doesn’t want to have any relation with her and does not want to stay with her.

“He allegedly gave her ‘talaq’ over phone,” said a police official.

Following the complaint lodged by the woman, a case has been registered against the man in Bhingar Camp police station in Ahmednagar under relevant Sections of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019. The act prohibits the instant triple talaq practice.

Earlier, the 31-year-old complainant woman had gone to Dubai for a job and then moved to Ahmednagar. The man lives in Mumbai and the couple has a three-year-old daughter.

Supreme Court had earlier banned the Triple Talaq practice terming it to be illegal and unconstitutional. Parliament of India declared the prohibition on 30 July 2019 and made it a punishable offence on 1 August 2019.
