Days after Kangana Ranaut was slammed over Twitter for misidentifying an aged woman from Punjab as a protestor in Shaheen Bagh protests and passing some ingenuine remarks, the woman from Punjab, Mahinder Kaur, has filed a defamation complaint against the actress Kangana Ranaut.
73-year old Mahinder Kaur has filed a complaint against Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut under Section 499 (defamation) and Section 500 (punishment for defamation) of the Indian Penal Code.
The complainant counsel Raghbir Singh told that the court has fixed January 11 as the date of hearing.
In the complaint filed, Kaur has stated that the actress made false imputations and remarks against her in a tweet, comparing her to another woman Bilkis Bano, who was protesting in the Shaheen Bagh against Citizenship Amendment Act.
“Because of the false and scandalous tweet, the complainant was suffering from grave mental tension, agony, harassment, humiliation, loss of reputation and defamation in the eyes of her family members, relatives, neighbours, co-villagers and general public at large,” the complaint said.
Mahinder Kaur is a resident of Bahadurgarh Jandian village and has become a poster woman of the ongoing farmers’ protest against the three agricultural laws.
Kangana along with the photos of both the women tweeted, “Shaheen Bagh dadi also joined the farmers’ agitation over the new agriculture laws at various border points of the national capital. “Same Dadi” who featured in Time Magazine was “available in 100 rupees.”
