The National Human Rights Commission has issued a notice to the director-general of UP police, following various complaints of their alleged ‘violation of human rights’ during the ongoing anti-CAA protests in UP.
NHRC observed that in the last few days, various incidents of deaths have been reported across Uttar Pradesh, mostly of youngsters, primarily from bullet injuries sustained during police action.
The complaint stated that “Youth have been killed, the Internet has been suspended, and the police themselves are destroying public property. The right to peaceful assembly has also been violated.”
They further asserted that the police have been targeting the Muslim population by sealing their shops and destroying the property of many individuals.
