In yet another incident that represented the beautiful human-animal bond, a UK-based woman married her cat to avoid rental restrictions under which she was not allowed to bring animals to the unit. She named her cat India.
After discovering a loophole in the restrictions, Deborah Hodge decided to marry her cat. She had already rehomed three previous pets due to the restrictions imposed by landlords.
The single mother of two feared eviction and didn’t want to lose her five-year-old cat. Therefore, she arranged a civil ceremony on April 19 and tied the knot with the feline.
Hodge stated that she had nothing to lose and everything to gain by wedding her pet. She further said that her cat, India, is fundamentally the most important thing in her life after her children.
“By marrying India, I need any future landlords to know that we come as a package and we cannot be separated under any circumstances as she is as important to me as the children,” she added.
“I recited vows under the universe that no man will ever tear myself and India apart. I refuse to be parted with her. I’d rather live on the streets than be without her,” Hodge said.
Reportedly, she revealed that she had left her two huskies when the landlord threatened her with eviction. Five years ago, she had to turn away her former cat because of similar restrictions. Losing the three pets absolutely broke my heart, Hodge said.
