Patna High Court has granted bail to advocate Niranjan Kumar who is accused of attempting to rape a law intern in his chamber. He got bail the next day after he was arrested.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Prahalad Kumar granted bail to advocate Niranjan on December 24.
The survivor is a 21-year-old law student who is currently pursuing law from Chanakya National Law University, Patna. She was interning at the accused’s office from December 1 and was molested on the last day of her internship.
As per the complainant, the accused coerced the girl into sexual favour, in the name of ‘Guru Dakshina’ (to repay the teacher as acknowledgment) and also tried to rape her in his chamber.
She raised an alarm and called the police after which the accused was detained.
“Advocate asked to stay in his room tonight, then he held my hand and forcefully started taking me to his bedroom which is in the office premises. I tried a lot to release my hand but he held me tightly. I got very nervous and he started saying don’t be afraid, this is Guru Dakshina. I courageously freed my hand and said that the call is coming from my house,” the complaint reads.
Consequently, an FIR was registered for an attempt to rape and several other relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code.
