A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed seeking stay on the Ram Mandir Bhumi Pujan ceremony which was scheduled on August 5. The petitioner has cited that the ceremony is a violation of “Unlock 2.0” guidelines and should be deferred in view of the surge in COVID-19 cases in the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to lay down the foundation stone for the construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya on August 5, 2020.

Delhi based journalist and lawyer Sanket Bhosale has challenged the ceremony in the High Court of Allahabad and sought the directions to put a stay as it will be violating the lockdown guidelines issued by the government and union Home Ministry.

Sanket Bhosale in his petition mentioned that there will be a huge congregation in this groundbreaking ceremony of Ram Mandir Janam Bhumi Pujan in Ayodhya which will be a defiance of the COVID-19 guidelines.

Earlier this week, Treasurer of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirtha Kshetra Trust, Swami Govind Dev Giri, had assured that the ceremony will be held complying with all the guidelines and social distancing norms will be properly followed.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of Ram Temple on August 5. To ensure social distancing at the programme, we have decided that there will not be more than 200 people, including 150 invitees,” said Swami Govind Dev Giri.

PM Modi is going to put the foundation stone in the presence of UP’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray, BJP veterans L K Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and other dignitaries.

Sanket Bhosale has also filed an RTI application with the Ministry of Home Affairs that if an exemption was granted for the event and on what grounds.
