A restaurant in Pennsylvania has sued a customer who tipped a waitress $3,000 (about Rs 2.3 lakh) and then demanded it back a few days later.
The incident happened with Mariana Lambart, a waitress at Alfredo’s Pizza Cafe in Scranton who got stunned and happy when a customer left a hefty tip for her.
The customer, identified as Eric Smith, placed an order for stromboli worth $13.25. In addition to the bill, Smith also charged $3,000 on his credit card.
On the tip, he wrote “Tip for Jesus” while claiming it to be a part of the social media movement.
The waitress was stunned and was utterly touched by the gesture. “It really meant a lot to me because everyone’s going through stuff,” Lambart said.
Her happiness turned into sorrow after Eric disputed the charged tip with his credit card company.
The restaurant has already handed over the tip amount to the waitress. Assuming it to be a misunderstanding, they tried to reach out for communication after knowing about the dispute with the credit card company. The manager filed charges in the magistrate’s office and called the incident “aggravating”.
“We’re just out of money at this point and he told us to sue him so that is what we are going to end up doing, I guess,” the manager said. He also stated that he was happy for Lambart as she is a hardworking person who deserves the money.
