The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed all the review petitions filed against the verdict passed on 9 November in the Ayodhya case.
The five-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of India, S A Bobde ousted 18 review petitions filed against the ruling of Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid. The dismissal was based on the lack of merits of the petitions and also stated that those who are not parties to the suit are not allowed to file the review.
On 9 November, the five-judge bench headed by the former Chief Justice, Ranjan Gogoi awarded a landmark judgment which granted the disputed land in Ayodhya to the deity, Ram Lalla. The apex court further accepted that the demolition of the Babri Masjid in 1992 was an egregious act, and hence compensated the Muslims by allotting the 5-acre land to the Sunni Waqf Board within Ayodhya.
The review petitions were filed by Nirmohi Akhara, Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha and the parties supported by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board. They sought a review against the SC verdict of 9 November which unanimously ordered setting up of trust by the government, within three months, which paved policy for the construction of a temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya.
