In yet another unprecedented decision, a three-member Supreme Court collegium headed by Chief Justice of India N V Ramana has recommended 68 names in one go for the elevation as judges in 12 High Courts.

The three-member SC collegium included Chief Justice of India NV Ramana, Justice UU Lalit, and Justice AM Khanwilkar.

After the two meetings held on August 25 and September 1, the SC collegium considered names of 112 candidates (82 from the Bar and 31 from the Judicial Service). Later, the collegium cleared 68 names (12 High Courts, 44 are from the Bar and 24 are from the Judicial Service).

The 12 High Courts include

  • Rajasthan High Court (7 names),
  • Calcutta High Court (10 names),
  • Jharkhand High Court (5 names),
  • Jammu and Kashmir High Court (4 names),
  • Madras High Court (4 names),
  • Madhya Pradesh High Court (1 name),
  • Karnataka High Court (2 names),
  • Punjab and Haryana High Court (4 names),
  • Kerala High Court (8 names),
  • Chhattisgarh High Court (2 names), and
  • Gauhati High Court (5 names)
