The Chief Minister of Karnataka BS Yediyurappa has today stated that Amulya Leona, who was detained for allegedly raising pro-Pakistan slogans at an anti-CAA protest in Bengaluru, should not be given bail, claiming that she has contacts with Naxals.
“It’s proved now that she had contacts with Naxals. Proper punishment should be given,” asserted Chief Minister Yediyurappa.
Amulya Leona, the 19-year-old student, was charged with sedition and subsequently denied bail. As per sources, she was also charged with provoking enmity between groups, and intentionally insulting people to provoke breach of peace. Further, she was sent to judicial custody for 14 days. However, Amulya’s father, Oswald Naronha, has denied the charges and had called for an inquiry into it.
Reportedly, during the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s event at Bangalore, Amulya has raised a slogan saying “Pakistan zindabad”. However, she was cut off by the people present on the stage as well as the police officials, before she could continue with her speech. As per reports, her Facebook post of 16 February showed that the girl wanted to make a point that humanity should be placed above the territorial idea of a nation-state, and not single out only Pakistan for praise.
The Facebook post she had written in the original Kannada stated that “Hindustan zindabad, Pakistan zindabad, Bangladesh zindabad, Sri Lanka zindabad, Nepal zindabad, China zindabad, Afghanistan zindabad, Bhutan zindabad.” “Whichever country it may be, zindabad to all countries.”
“Every person is entitled to basic amenities. All people should have citizenship rights. The governments of all countries should look after their people in a good manner. Zindabad to everyone who works in the service of people,” she added.
