Assistant Police Inspector, Riyaz Kazi who is a colleague of suspended API Sachin Waze has been suspended from service on Monday. He was arrested on Sunday by NIA to question him in connection to the recovery of an explosive laden SUV outside the house of industrialist Mukesh Ambani and the mysterious death of Mansukh Hiran.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Arms unit) Virendra Mishra issued the order of Kazi’s suspension which states that he cannot do any private work and action will be taken against him if this order is violated.
Kazi has been directed to appear before the local Arms Unit every Friday.
He was arrested by the National Investigation Agency on Sunday after a fresh round of questioning. A holiday court has remanded him to the NIA’s custody till April 16.
The investigation agency suspects that Kazi has helped Waze in obtaining fake number plates used for the explosive laden vehicle that was found outside the Ambani house. Sachin Waze was heading the Crime Intelligence Unit until his arrest on March 13.
Kazi has been questioned multiple times in connection to the matter.
In purported CCTV footage, Kazi was seen entering a number plates shop in suburban Vikhroli and having a conversation with the shop owner. In the video, Kazi can also be seen taking away a digital recorder and a computer.
An official also said, “Kazi was also seen collecting CCTV footage from Waze’s housing complex in neighbouring Thane.”
