Taking note of the medical negligence reported in several cases, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered that cases under Epidemic Act will be registered against any hospital which turns down Covid patients. He also added that a hefty fine will also be imposed on such hospitals.
“A case will be registered against any hospital which turns down patients. It will be based on the recommendations of the concerned District Magistrate and the Chief Medical Officer. The Medical Education Department has issued orders in this regard to all the Commissioners, District Magistrates and Chief Medical Officers (CMO) in the state,” said a government spokesperson.
He further added that there was no shortage of ventilators, bi-level positive airway pressure (BIPAP), and high flow nasal cannula (HFNC) machines in government hospitals and medical colleges.
Principal Secretary (Medical Education) Alok Kumar stated that protecting the lives of the people was the priority of the government and no negligence on the part of hospital administrations would be tolerated.
The State government has designated King George’s Medical University (KGMU) and the Balrampur hospital as dedicated Covid units.
The press release issued by the State government also submitted that the medical education department has issued orders to DMs, CMOs, and divisional commissioners in regard to this.
Taking note of the urgent need for oxygen generation plants, the government is setting up plants in several government as well as autonomous medical colleges in Saharanpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, Banda, Firozabad, Ayodhya, Basti, and Bahraich districts of the state.
According to the press release, the State medical education department has released 1.15 crore from which 14.37 lakh is allotted to each plant.
Apparently, the second wave of coronavirus is more dangerous and massive. The covid response seems to be failing throughout the country as lakhs of cases are being reported in a single day. In Uttar Pradesh alone, 22,439 cases have been reported in the last 24 hours and 2.17 lakh cases in the whole country.
CM Yogi himself had tested positive for Covid-19 two days back.
