Two employees of the Mumbai-based Sion Hospital has been suspended following an incident of mixing up the dead bodies of two persons. The dead body of a 28-year-old boy Ankush was misplaced with the dead body of a man who is said to be died by suicide on Sunday. Ankush’s dead body was handed over to the wrong family and later cremated.

The kin of the 28-year old has created a ruckus in the Sion Hospital in Mumbai and had registered a complaint against the hospital staff.

28-year-old Dharavi resident Ankush Sarvade, a dancer by profession, was admitted to the Sion Hospital on August 28 after he met with an accident on the Eastern Freeway. The family of the deceased told that the doctors had operated on the head injuries later.

The deceased relative, Sanjana Chavan told that she was informed about the deteriorating health of Ankush on Saturday. “When we went to the hospital around 7.30 am, we were told that my brother had passed away,” Sanjana Chavan told.

His body was sent for the postmortem and when the grieving family reached the mortuary on Sunday evening, they were shown dead body of a much older man.

Sanjana Chavan mentioned, “The body was of a man in his 50s. When we asked for Ankush’s body, hospital authorities told us that it was missing. After some time, we were told that the body was mistakenly given to another family and has already been cremated.”

Another sister of the deceased, Jaishree Sarvade said, “When we came to the hospital to claim his body, they told us that it was already handed over to another family. How can a hospital be so callous? My parent couldn’t even see him for the last time.”

The deceased’s sister Sanjana has also alleged that there are stitches above her brother’s right kidney and said, “The hospital authorities need to explain why they operated on his kidney when he was hurt on the head.”

Hospital Dean Mr. Mohan Joshi stated that two hospital staffers have been suspended and inquiry is underway. He also added that the family of the suicide victim has identified Sarvade’s body.
