On Wednesday, a Lucknow Court has sent Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Kumar Lallu to 14-days judicial custody, after he was arrested for protesting over the issue of bus movements arranged by Congress for migrant workers.
On Tuesday, the police had arrested the UP-Congress chief, along with former Congress legislature party leader Pradeep Mathur and Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee secretary Vivek Bansal, for staging a protest against the state government not allowing buses arranged by the Congress party to enter Uttar Pradesh to ferry back migrants to their homes. However, all the three were released on interim bail, on Wednesday.
According to the Agra Police, a case was registered against the UP-Congress chief under Sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and 269 (Negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) of the Indian Penal Code, besides the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897.
“The Congress state president was granted bail in the Agra case but was taken into custody by Lucknow police for a case filed at the Hazratganj police station (in the state capital),” SSP Babloo Kumar said.
As per sources, soon after the UP Congress chief was released on interim bail, another FIR was registered against Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s personal secretary – Sandeep Singh and Ajay Kumar Lallu in connection with a case of forgery registered regarding the alleged discrepancies in the list of buses provided by the Congress party for the migrants. The case was registered in Hazratganj Police station of Lucknow and a special police team from Lucknow took him to the state capital.
According to the sources, while talking to the reporters in Lucknow during his medical examination, Lallu said, “Such cases and jail sentences are a reward for a political worker. The government can heap cases on me and keep me in jail but they should provide immediate relief to migrant workers.”
