In a shocking incident of Uttar Pradesh, a married woman hanged herself in front of her in-laws. They allegedly shot the whole incident and uploaded it on social media to absolve them from any kind of complicity in the crime.
As per the reports, the deceased was subjected to constant harassment by her in-laws for dowry. The continuous abuse forced her to take this extreme step.
In the video shared on social media, the deceased, Komal, can be seen preparing to hang herself and her in-laws were waiting outside. Komal was tying a noose around a beam lining the asbestos roof. She can be seen gasping after tying stole around her neck and tests the grip so it does not give way.
“Apne aap latak rahi hai (she hanged herself on her own),” says a man from behind the camera. The voice is presumably of her father-in-law.
SP Arpit Vijayvargiya confirmed that the video had been shot from outside the room and said, “They had tried to stop her from killing herself.”
However, Komal’s family narrated a different story.
Komal and her husband, AShish got married in September 2019. “I had given Rs 5 lakh and a bike to his family at the time. But his father Devendra, mother Savita and brother Sachin were not happy. About six months ago, they beat up Komal and drove her out of the house. The elders of the village sent her back,” said Komal’s father in the complaint.
He further added, “Two months ago, they started demanding Rs 1.2 lakh. They said that they would get Ashish married to someone else if she could not pay the dowry. All four of them got together and killed my daughter.”
The police have arrested Komal’s father-in-law and mother-in-law while her husband and brother-in-law are absconding.
All the four accused are booked under Section 304B (dowry death), Section 498A (cruelty to married woman), and Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and under Section 3 (giving or taking dowry) and Section 4 (demanding dowry) of The Dowry Prohibition Act.
