US Supreme Court on Friday rejected the long-shot lawsuit by Texas backed by former president Donald Trump seeking directions to throw out the election results in the four battleground states. President-elect Joe Biden won the elections in those mentioned four states.
The court noted that Texas had no standing to challenge the election results in other states and ruled, “Texas has not demonstrated a judicially cognisable interest in the manner in which another state conducts its elections.”
The lawsuit had sought the directions to invalidate and overturn the election results in Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
The lawsuit filed on late Tuesday evening was supported by 18 Republican Attorney Generals and 106 Republican members of the House of Representatives, including House minority leader Kevin McCarthy.
In the lawsuit filed through the Texas attorney general, Ken Paxton, it was alleged that election results in the four states were unconstitutional because of their heavy use of fraud-prone mail-in votes during the coronavirus pandemic.
The four states on Thursday in a filing with court had asked the court to reject the lawsuit.
Donald Trump has denied to concede the election and alleged and has been making unsubstantiated assertions that illegal votes have cost him a second presidential term. Trump and other Republicans have been alleging the election results to be a fraud and claimed that Trump has won the elections.
Since the November 3 election results, Trump and his supporter republicans have filed a number of lawsuits challenging the results.
The Democratic Joe Biden won the election by a margin of 306 to 232 votes in the US electoral college.
