After hours of questioning, the Mumbai police has arrested the 21-year old engineering student from Bengaluru in connection to the Bulli Bai App case. Another accused, a woman, has been detained from Uttarakhand.
The woman is believed to be the main accused behind the Bulli Bai app which auctioned Muslim women on it. She has allegedly been handling three accounts related to this app. The app was created on GitHub.
This is the second incident when Muslim women are being harassed online. Last year also, Sulli Deals app was launched auctioning Muslim women.
The accused identified as Vishal Kumar is a 21-year-old engineering student from Bengaluru who allegedly became friends with the woman on Instagram. He was arrested after several hours of questioning.
“A woman has been detained by the cyber cell of Mumbai Police in Uttarakhand. Seems like is the main mastermind behind the app. She will be presented before a court in Uttarakhand for transit remand. After obtaining the transit remand, she will be brought to Mumbai,” said the police.
“The detained woman and the arrested man became friends via social media site – Instagram. The racket behind the app includes many more people,” added the police.
The police has refused to share much details but told that many people are involved in the shameful act.
Vishal Kumar changed his name on December 31, taking up an identity related to the Sikh community. He was detained in Bengaluru and was brought to Mumbai.
On Sunday, Mumbai police had filed an FIR against the unknown persons who have doctored photographs of women were uploaded for auction on the ‘Bulli Bai’ application hosted on the GitHub platform.
Prior to this, the Mumbai cyber police has lodged a case against Bulli Bai app developers and Twitter handles that promoted the app. Doctored photographs of Muslim women were auctioned with the caption “Bulli Bai of the Day”.
The case was registered under Section 153(A) (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion etc), Section 153(B) (Imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration), Section 295(A) (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings), Section 354D (stalking), Section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), Section 500 (criminal defamation) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 67 (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of Information Technology Act.
The first arrested man is Vishal Kumar!
Main accused is a WOMAN detained from Uttarakhand, the land where genocidal conference happened!

I don’t believe we are starting the first day of the year with this toxicity. I have been told that my name too is on this obnoxious, perverted site. A culture that claims to worship women, sexualises, auctions, defiant Muslim women. Hello @supriya_sule @MumbaiPolice #BulliDeals https://t.co/vAED8lByHJ

Last year I wrote about how muslim women's pictures were auctioned online where women felt haunted and humiliated. Today, after a year seeing my own picture in another trend #bullideals, besides other muslim womens', makes me feel utmost disgusting. https://t.co/AE0N1sInE2
