In a shocking incident, an 81-year-old man was arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida for allegedly raping a minor girl over a period of seven years. The victim was under the care of the accused’s live-in partner.

The artist identified as Maurice Ryder has been booked for digital rape. He started abusing the girl when she was 10 years old.

Accused Maurice Ryder has been arrested after an FIR was lodged against him under Indian Penal Code Sections 376 (rape), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation). He is accused of digital rape of a 17-year-old girl over the last seven years,” said a police official.

The girl lives here with her guardian, who has been a friend of the accused for around 20 years now. The guardian had lodged the complaint in the case,” said Rajeev Kumar, SHO Sector 39 police station.

What is Digital Rape?

Many of you might have thought that digital rape happens digitally or over the internet! If this is what you are thinking, you are completely wrong.

Digital rape means forced sex using fingers or toes or using any other object other than the reproductive organ.

Such offences were not considered under the ambit of ‘rape’ before 2012. It was after the brutal Nirbhaya rape case that digital rape was added during the reforms in Indian criminal law.
