The Delhi Police has today, arrested and booked the former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Councillor Tahir Hussain, who has been absconding in a murder case during the Delhi riots.
Earlier, Hussain moved a surrender application before Karkardooma court in Delhi saying that he wanted to surrender in the case and sought for anticipatory bail. However, the bench headed by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vishal Pahuja, dismissed his application, stating that the relief sought by Hussain was outside his jurisdiction.
Hussain, who has been absconding since his name cropped up in the case was then charged after the body of Intelligence Bureau official, Ankit Sharma was recovered from a drain in Northeast Delhi’s Jaffrabad, last week. Reportedly, Ankit Sharma’s father, Ravinder Sharma, who also works with the Intelligence Bureau accused Tahir Hussain behind the murder of his son.
Advocate Mukesh Kalia, appearing for Hussain stated that his client has been falsely implicated in the case and sought protection for his life and property.
Subsequently, Hussain was also suspended from Aam Aadmi Party for his alleged involvement in the Delhi violence against the Citizenship Amendment Act, which has left at least 42 people dead and around 200 injured.
