A Mumbai court has issued summons to the lead star of Gangubai Kathiawadi Alia Bhatt, its director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and two writers in connection to the criminal defamation complaint filed by Gangubai’s family.
The summon was issued by an additional chief metropolitan magistrate in Mumbai.
Babu Ravji Shah who is one one of the four children adopted by Gangubai Kathiawadi, has filed a complaint alleging that the film and its source material, author Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai, are defamatory.
All the accused in the complaint and complainant have been asked to appear before the court on May 21.
The complainant, Babu Ravji Shah has alleged that the biographical crime drama is factually incorrect and has shown his family in the wrong way.
The movie narrates the story of a brothel owner which is being co-produced by Bhansali and Jayantilal Gada’s Pen India Limited which is scheduled to release on July 30.
Initially, the film was scheduled to be released in September last year but due to COVID-19 situations, the release was postponed.
