Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant met Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Tuesday and has demanded legal action against Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami for violating the rules of Press Council of India.
Sawant has also written to the Home Minister seeking strict legal action against the journalist allegedly over framing allegations against Maharashtra cabinet minister in late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case without any evidences and violating the PCI’s guidelines.
He called the Arnab Goswami’s reference against Uddhav Thackeray aggravating and also said that he is spreading false news for the interest of few people. Sawant has also mentioned in his letter that Arnab Goswami has named Maharashtra CM and Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and his son, Aditya Thackeray in the Sushant Singh Rajput and Disha Salian death case.
“Under the garb of journalism, Mr. Arnab Goswami, chief editor of Hindi news channel Republic Bharat and English news channel Republic TV, is constantly airing news irresponsibly. Without any evidence, the news channels and its chief editor Arnab Goswami have been levelling allegations on Maharashtra Cabinet minister,” said Sawant in his letter.
Sawant has also made references to the past incidents where FIRs had been registered against Goswami for speaking in a derogatory manner against politicians and opposition party leaders.
“Recently, it is seen channels decide the accused, name some people, and indulge in character assassination. The body language and the manner in which this is done is so disrespectful. It came to a point where Maharashtra Chief Minister was singularly named. Such language is aggravating. This is not just disrespecting the person but the insult of the entire state, because he is the CM of this state. I have asked the home minister to take cognizance of this. They think nobody will question them,” said Arvind Sawant.
