Allahabad High Court has imposed a cost of Rs 10,000 on the Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Council’s Secretary Prayagraj for showing a student absent in high school, giving her average marks, and harassing her unnecessarily.

The order was passed by Justice J J Munir after a High School student Priyanka filed a petition.

Standing counsel Sriprakash Singh produced the petitioner’s answer book following the earlier order passed by Allahabad High Court. The answer book was related to the High School Exam of 2020 of the subject of Social Science.

In the earlier hearing, the respondent Board had found and accepted the fact that the petitioner was not absent, but in the absence of a script, the girl was awarded average marks which were 26. Being a meritorious student, Priyanka had urged the court to evaluate her answer book again for its worth.

Standing Counsel submitted that after the evaluation of the petitioner’s answer book, she scored 52 marks on merits in Social Science and 30 marks in the practical. So, she had actually earned 82 marks out of 100.

Sriprakash Singh also placed the written instructions before the court that he had received from the Secretary of UP Board of High School and Intermediate Education on December 16, 2020. These instructions included the Xerox copy of the revised mark sheet.

The court stated that the girl had suffered mental harassment. The High Court directed the guilty party to deposit a compensation amount of Rs 10,000 to the account of the petitioner’s father Brijesh Kumar Singh through a demand draft.
