Winning the hearts with a hear-warming move, an Allahabad High Court judge volunteered to pay the fees of a Dalit student for her admission to the IIT-BHU in Varanasi. The girl could not arrange the money till the last date of admission due to financial hardships and her father’s illness.

The High Court asked the student Sanskriti Ranjan to report to IIT-BHU within three days with all the required documents. Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh has contributed Rs 15,000 from his own pocket.

While hearing Sanskriti’s plea, Justice Singh stated that the court on its own volunteered to contribute Rs 15,000 so that she could pursue her dream of studying at the IIT. The bench has also directed the IIT-BHU authorities to create a supernumerary seat (seat above the sanctioned intake) for the Dalit student, so that she should be allowed to continue the course even if no seat falls vacant to accommodate her.

By scoring 92.77 percentile, Sanskriti has secured a rank of 2,062. Consequently, she got a seat in Mathematics and Computing for the 5-year course of Bachelor and Master of Technology (Dual Degree) at IIT-BHU.

Sanskriti was not able to arrange the money till the last date due to financial crises and her father’s illness. Her father is suffering from kidney disease and requires dialysis twice a week.

The court also took note of the Sanskriti’s submissions that they had written several times to the Joint Seat Allocation Authority seeking an extension of the admission fees deposit deadline. Unfortunately, they didn’t receive any response.

Recently, Supreme Court had directed IIT Bombay to admit a Dalit student who could not pay the fee on time.
