A 50-year-old woman from Amethi district has succumbed to her injuries. The deceased woman and her daughter had set themselves ablaze on July 17 in front of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath Yogi’s office.
It was said that she took the drastic step after alleged police inaction in an ongoing land dispute in the Amethi district. Subsequently to the incident, they were rushed to the hospital.
“Safia, about 50, died during treatment in the hospital at about 11.45 pm on Tuesday. Her daughter is undergoing treatment,” stated Medical Superintendent, SPM Civil hospital, told PTI.
Lucknow Police Commissioner Sujeet Pandey had called prima facie a criminal conspiracy and stated, “It is a criminal conspiracy as part of which some people instigated them (Safia and her daughter). A case has been registered against four people — Aasma, Sultan, Kadir Khan (Amethi district president of AIMIM), and Anoop Patel (former Congress spokesperson) — in this regard.”
Lucknow Police Commissioner said that the woman was specifically told to visit Lucknow and set themselves on fire before CM’s office to get their matter to be highlighted and heard. “We have evidence to show that these women went to the UP Congress office and met Anoop Patel,” said Sujeet Pandey.
Departmental action will be initiated against sub-inspector, a head constable and two constables who were earlier suspended for negligence of duty.
However, Congress has accused police of trying to implicate their party member from the Amethi district.
UPCC Vice President Virendra Chaudhary has also accused the police that under a well-planned conspiracy, the police is dragging the name of a former spokesman of the Congress’ Amethi unit to hide the bad shape of law and order.”
