Bhopal Killer Udyan Das killed and then packed her body in a metal box and concrete was poured over it. He has also killed his parents in 2010.
The additional district judge Suresh Biswakarma of the fast track court has convicted him on Tuesday and has awarded the life imprisonment sentence on Wednesday.
“Today the court has sentenced him to life imprisonment under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code(IPC). He has also been fined Rs 20,000. If he fails to pay, he will have to spend six more months in jail,” told public prosecutor, Arun Chatterjee.
“We had appealed for a death sentence. The court has sentenced him for life. We welcome the order. He has been sentenced to life and fined Rs 20,000 for murder and another two years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2,000 for tampering evidence,” said Chatterjee.
On the other hand, the lawyer appearing for Das, Abhishek Biswa, argued, “The initial case was that of abduction. Later he was charged with murder and tampering evidence. The prosecution could not prove that the woman was abducted.”
“I have no repentance. Definitely we will go to the High Court and Supreme Court if necessary,” said Das while addressing the reporters.
Das, had also admitted that he had killed his parents in 2010 and had buried their bodies in the garden. His father was a foreman at BHEL and his mother was a data analyst at Vindhyachal in Bhopal.
He came in contact with deceased Akanksha Sharma through defunct social networking platform Orkut in 2007 and told her that he is a professional based in the US. Akanksha Sharma who was a resident of the Bankura district of West Bengal, met Das in Delhi. Then they later moved to Bhopal where she was murdered.
Das strangled her and placed her body in a trunk and poured liquid cement over it. He then sealed that trunk and left for Delhi.
