Students who appeared for the Non-Technical Popular Categories exam 2021 of the Railway Recruitment Board were lathi-charged at the Rajendra Nagar Terminal station of Danapur. The police also used tear gas to disperse the crowd.

The protesting students were removed from the site at around 10 pm.

They (protesters) stopped the train for almost 5 hours, this is not the way to resolve any issue. We’ll take action against the main culprits & register a case against them,” said Patna district magistrate Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh.

The students have been protesting against the “inaccurate exam results”. They alleged that the authorities raised the cut-off bar and therefore selected only a few students than promised. The protesting students also expressed anger that one candidate was selected for multiple positions.

RRB Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) for computer-based test (CBT-1) results were released on January 15 to shortlist the candidates for CBT-2.

The students claimed that the 2019 RRB notification had not mentioned about any second exam.

However, the Ministry of Railways issued a clarification that the notification has clearly mentioned about the second exam.

While the first stage CBT was a common examination for all the candidates, Para 13.2 of the notification clearly states that in the 2nd stage CBT there would be a separate examination for each group (viz., Levels 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6) with differing graded levels of difficulty. Accordingly, all posts falling within the same level shall have a common 2nd stage CBT,” stated the Ministry.

If a candidate is eligible and has opted for more than one level (as per educational qualification), he/she will have to appear in the corresponding 2nd stage CBT for each level, it added.

Over 75 lakh aspirants have appeared for the exam and merely 2.5 lakh candidates have qualified which has no 10th or 12th pass. The second exam will be conducted in a single phase from February 15 to 19, 2022.
