Given the rising cases of COVID-19 in its vicinity, the Gujarat High Court on Tuesday decided to shut its premises and suspend its judicial work for three days, from Wednesday i.e. 8th July to Friday i.e. 10th July.
The decision was taken after six HC employees and a constable were tested positive for COVID-19, during a testing drive in the last week as well as the data reflected through the Aarogya Setu app. Accordingly, a request was made for details of all persons who entered the Court’s premises during the preceding two weeks.
On 2nd July, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) informed the HC that the Aarogya Setu app reflected that HC premises were in the list of 20 pink locations, where the possibility of COVID-19 spread is very high. This led to the launch of a testing drive on the HC campus from 4th July, wherein seven persons were found positive for the virus.
Subsequently, Additional Chief Secretary Rajiv Kumar Gupta and Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner Mukesh Kumar during a meeting with HC’s standing committee advised shutting the premises for three days for sanitization purposes.
Earlier, the HC tried to increase its functioning on three occasions, however, it had restricted the same every time, in view of the growing coronavirus cases.
