Justice Anant Manohar Badar, the former Judge of Bombay High Court has today sworn in as the Judge of Kerala High Court, in a ceremony held at Banquet Hall of the High Court at 9.30 AM. Chief Justice S. Manikumar administered the oath to the judge.

Pursuant to the recommendation of the Supreme Court’s collegium on 27th April, Central Government had notified the transfer of Justice Badar from Bombay High Court to Kerala High Court, last month.

Born on 10th August 1961, Justice Badar did B.Com. and LL.B. from G.S. College of Commerce and Economics, Nagpur and University College of Law, Nagpur, respectively. He was the Executive Member of Nagpur University Students’ Council and was elected as President of Students Union of the University College of Law, Nagpur, in 1984. He was also a member of the Senate of Nagpur University and represented Law as well as Commerce faculties.

Justice Badar enrolled as the Advocate on 30th September 1985 and started his legal career under the guidance of his father late Shri M.P. Badar, who was a Government Pleader and Public Prosecutor at Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court. He was a Standing Counsel for Nagpur Improvement Trust, Nagpur Municipal Corporation, Forest Development Corporation of Maharashtra Limited, and Western Coal Fields Limited.

Subsequently, Justice Badar practiced at Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court in various civil, criminal, and writ cases and also at various Tribunals including Labour and Industrial Courts. In 1991, he was appointed as the Honorary Assistant Government Pleader and thereafter, as an Assistant Government Pleader and Additional Public Prosecutor in the High Court of Judicature at Bombay, Nagpur Bench, from February 1992 and October 1994 respectively.

Justice Badar joined the Maharashtra Judicial Service and was recruited as a District Judge in November 2000. He worked as an Additional District and Sessions Judge at Akola and Wardha; Member, Industrial Tribunal at Nagpur, and Principal District and Sessions Judge at Pune. He also worked in the Registry of Bombay High Court as Registrar (Vigilance). He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court on 3rd March 2014 and was made permanent in March 2016
