A Delhi Court has recently refused to grant bail to an advocate who was accused of forging signatures of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, for the purpose of appointment as Special Public Prosecutor in the Narcotics Control Bureau.
The Metropolitan Magistrate of Patiala House Court, Ashwani Panwar passed the order in an application by the accused, Advocate Rakesh Kumar Awasthi, who sought bail on the ground that he was a practicing advocate having good antecedents.
During the hearing, the accused claimed that he had been falsely implicated in the case and had not prepared any forged documents with the signatures of the two BJP leaders. On the other hand, the Prosecution opposed the same while submitting that the accused had been previously involved in a similar type of offense.
According to the prosecution, the accused allegedly prepared letters by forging the signatures of Home Minister and UP Chief Minister for the purpose of appointment as Special Public Prosecutor in the Narcotics Control Bureau.
Subsequently, while citing that the accused deserved no leniency on the ground that grave allegations were leveled against him, the court went on to dismiss his petition.
“Keeping in view the nature and gravity of the offenses involved applicant/accused deserves no leniency on the ground that he is a Legal Practitioner since 1991 as grave allegations of forging recommendation letters have been leveled against the applicant. Accordingly, the present bail application stands dismissed,” stated the Metropolitan Magistrate Ashwani Panwar.
