An act to play smart with the country’s legal system may cost the Madurai couple dearly. After the videos and photos of a young couple from Madurai in Tamil Nadu getting married on chartered flight to avoid Covid-restrictions on ground went viral, DGCA took the cognizance of the matter and derostered all the crew of Spicejet.

“On the incident of a Madurai couple getting married onboard SpiceJet flight yesterday, the DGCA has directed SpiceJet to lodge complaint against those not following Covid-19 appropriate behaviour with relevant authorities,” said the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

The trick to escape the Covid restrictions on ground has won full marks for ingenuity but now the consequences might turn bad for them. DGCA has ordered an investigation and strict action against the violators.

The couple booked a flight to Bengaluru and also invited all the guests on the Boeing 737 plane. In the videos, guests can be seen enjoying marriage inside the aircraft flouting all the Covid-norms. Majority of the guests were there without masks and no social distancing as it was a full packed flight.

Airport authorities have denied having any knowledge about the plane wedding. “A SpiceJet chartered flight was booked yesterday from Madurai. Airport Authority officials were unaware of the mid-air marriage ceremony,” Madurai Airport Director, S Senthil Valavan said.
