Former High Court Judge CS Karnan has withdrawn his bail petition in connection to the cases registered against him for allegedly making derogatory remarks against women and the judiciary in a video which he had uploaded online. CS Karnan had moved the Madras High Court on Friday.
The counsel appearing for the CS Karnan mentioned the withdrawal of bail application before the bench of Justice V Bharathidasan.
CS Karnan had moved bail pleas before the Madras High Court after the dismissal of his bail pleas before Metropolitan Magistrate and the Sessions Court at Chennai.
Three FIRs were registered against the ex-High Court judge last year over allegedly making derogatory remarks against women and the judiciary.
Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry had initiated the writ petitions seeking strict action against CS Karnan. Following the complaints and writ petitions initiated, Madras High Court had ordered blocking of remarks from social media on November 10. He was arrested afterward.
In the bail applications, CS Karnan mentioned that he has not released any video containing obscene or vulgar language after he made an undertaking to refrain from any such conduct to the police, who had summoned him under Section 41A, of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) prior to his eventual arrest.
In the plea it was also mentioned that he has been suffering from severe depression and disturbance following his retirement and the incarceration he underwent earlier. He further added that the same had aggravated and caused him to act in an improper manner.
Ex-judge stated in the bail plea that due to severe depression, he had acted without comprehension or realizing the full consequences of his actions. He also stated that he was under severe trauma and not of a proper mindset.
He was treated at the Stanley Hospital for age-related issues and also COVID and was confined in Central Prison 1 – Puzh
