A barbaric incident has been reported at the Singhu border where farmers have been protesting against three farm bills. The body of a young man was found hanging to the overturned police barricade. His one hand and one leg was chopped off and there was a pool of blood on the ground.

As per the reports and a video shared from the site, Nihangs – a ‘warrior’ Sikh group – are being blamed for the brutal and sickening murder for allegedly desecrating the Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikhs’ holy book.

“At about 5 am today, a body was found hanging with hands, legs chopped (off) at the spot where farmers’ protest is underway (in Kundli, Sonipat). No info on who is responsible (and) FIR lodged against an unknown person. Viral video is a matter of probe… rumours will linger,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police Hansraj.

The heinous mob lynching reportedly took place at 3 in the morning. Initially, the entry of police was barred at the crime site and they were allegedly refusing to hand over the body. The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained.

In a video, people can be seen standing over the man while his wrist has been cut off and he lies bleeding on the ground, his eyes glazed over in shock and pain. His chopped hand can be seen lying next to him while angry Nihangs carrying spears were asking him his name and native village.

One Jathedar Baba Nrain Singh, in a Facebook post, can be heard saying, “This man was punished for disrespecting Guru Granth Sahib. We have cut his limbs. He is a Punjabi, yet he did this. Punjabis have to be careful. It is a conspiracy by the government to promote disrespect against Guru Granth Sahib.”
