After being duped for Rs 4 crore by a Chennai-based businessman G Mahesh, Veteran Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has filed a complaint with the city police of Chennai. The accused has moved the Madras High Court seeking anticipatory bail.

Harbhajan Singh in his complaint has mentioned that he was introduced to the Chennai-based businessman G Mahesh through a mutual friend. Mahesh lives on Juhu Beach Road at Uthandi in Chennai. In 2015, Harbhajan had paid an amount worth Rs 4 crore as a loan to him.

Bhajji told that he had tried to reach him several times, but he always delayed and avoided to return the money.

A cheque worth Rs 25 lakh issued by Mahesh on August 18 this year, bounced due to insufficient funds. Subsequently, Harbhajan approached the city police commissioner and has registered a complaint against Mahesh and a few others.

Harbhajan’s plea was forwarded to the Neelankarai Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Visveshvaraiah to conduct a detailed inquiry.

G Mahesh through his counsels K Surendar and Chenthoori Pugazendhi has sought anticipatory bail in Madras High Court.

In the affidavit submitted by Mahesh, he had mentioned that he had taken the loan from the veteran cricketer Harbhajan Singh after issuing one of his property in Thalambur as security. He also pointed out that Harbhajan is having the power of attorney registered on his name and has paid all the dues.

“The property, with the document number 3635/2015, was registered at the Thiruporur sub-register,” Mahesh stated.
