A 19-year old Iranian girl has been sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment for sharing some distorted pictures on her Instagram handle. She had gained over 486,000 followers on Instagram after sharing her morphed pictures using heavy makeup and photoshop, transforming her into a “gaunt” — a Zombie version of eminent Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie.
Sahar Tabar, whose real name is Fatemeh Khishvand from Tehran, was arrested in October 2019 for her social media posts. At that time, she was charged with blasphemy, inciting violence, gaining income through inappropriate means, and encouraging the youth to corruption.
Later, Tabar addressed the media and stated that the two charges against her have been cleared and now she is facing the charges of corruption of young people and disrespect for the Islamic Republic stand.
The well-known Instagrammer had pleaded for the release for the detention citing the grounds of having contracted Covid-19. But jail authorities rejected the claims. Her lawyer Masih Alinejad through a series of tweets had urged Angelina Jolie to campaign for her release and tweeted, “I call on Angelina Jolie to help an Iranian 19-year-old girl who received 10 years prison sentence for using makeup & Photoshop to turn herself into Angelina. Islamic Republic has a history of tormenting women. We need to be united against this gender apartheid.”
In last year’s confession of October with an Iranian TV Broadcast, Tabar revealed her mental illness. Tabar told that she is a victim with an abnormal personality and mental state who sought vulgarity on social media.
