The center notified the appointment of the senior-most judge of Orissa High Court, Justice Sanju Panda as the Acting Chief Justice of the said HC.
The notification dated 3 January 2020 stated that Justice Sanju Panda will take charge as the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court with effect from 5 January 2020, ensuing to the retirement of Justice Kalpesh Satyendra Jhaveri.

Enrolled as an Advocate at the Orissa High Court in 1985, Panda has around 21 years of experience in Service, Civil, Company and Constitutional matters. In 1994, she held the position of Additional Standing Counsel and in 1955, she was appointed as the Standing Counsel for Vigilance (Special court). Further, between 2001 and 2003, Panda worked as an Additional Standing Counsel for Commercial Tax.
She further took the position of Judge at Orissa High Court on 1 March 2007. She is the first woman judge to be appointed as the acting Chief Justice of Orissa High Court.
