Kerala High Court has issued a notice to Nilambur MLA PV Anvar over a plea filed against him for delaying the rehabilitation process for the Kavalappara flood victims. High Court bench has directed Anvar and the state government to submit their reply by August 6.

Justice Sivaraman has issued the notice to MLA PV Anvar while hearing a petition filed by the convenor of ‘Kavalappara Colony Koottayma’, Dileep M through Mohammed Iquabal. Kottayma comprises of all the victims who lost their houses in the Kavalappara floods.

The petitioner has alleged rehabilitation for the flood victims is being delayed due to the differences between MLA Anvar and district collector over the identification of land to construct the rehabilitation houses. Dileep has been seeking court directions for time-bound implementation of the rehabilitation.

The petition also stated that taking note of the cold war ongoing between PV Anvar and district collector, Chief Secretary has decided to abandon the rehabilitation project. The petitioner has also pointed out that despite such a big tragedy, the government is delaying the recourse just because of political reasons.

Last year in 2019, 40 houses were damaged, 44 houses were destroyed, and 59 persons lost their lives in the Kavalappara flood. As per the reports, the flood victims are either living in rented houses provided by various charitable organizations or are still living in the rehabilitation camps.
